SIMPLE DIY CARPET CLEANING TIPS-Rexburg, ID
Some of the most common carpet spills and stains include make up, wine and wax. And none of us want any of these things in our carpet. Here are 3 simple DIY carpet cleaning tips to keep in mind for sudden spills.
MAKE UP: For liquid make-up, first absorb as much as possible with a dry, cotton towel. DO NOT RUB. Cover the spot with the cotton towel and stand on it. The pressure will assist you in removing more of the spill. Next, get the spill damp with a moist towel. Then spray some white, foam shaving cream over the spot. Use the moist towel to rub the spot in a circular motion. The shaving cream will break down stain. Next, mist the spot with a spray bottle of water or simply wipe the area with a damp towel. You can repeat this process until the spot is removed.
WINE: It’s always nice to enjoy a glass of red wine, but getting it out of carpet is a different story. Should you find yourself with a red wine spill on your carpet, don’t panic. First, grab a white cotton towel and absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Remember to stand on the towel – the added pressure helps the towel soak up more wine. Next, open a bottle of white wine. Yes, white wine. Sprinkle the white wine directly over the red wine spill. How much white wine you will need depends on how much red wine was spilled. Cover the spill with a clean cotton towel again and absorb as much of the wine as possible. Remember to move the towel often and to stand on it. The trick is to have dry towel over the spill area each time you press down. The dry towel will pull the moisture out of the carpet, removing the wine in the process.
WAX: When wax is spilled on your carpet or upholstery, let it cool and harden. Once cool, pick away as much of the solid wax as you can. Next, plug in your iron and grab a white cotton towel. Once your iron is hot, cover the wax spill with the towel. Press the hot iron over the towel. The iron will re-melt the wax and the towel will absorb the wax once it becomes liquid again. Repeat this step 2 to 3 times and then let the carpet or upholstery cool again. Most carpet is synthetic and will melt if exposed to high heat for an extended period of time. Watch closely and make sure you are removing wax and not melting carpet fiber. Once most of the wax has been removed, any remain bits can be trimmed out with a pair of scissors if necessary.
Be prepared for spills with these 3 simple DIY carpet cleaning tips! Always keep clean, white cotton towels on hand. They work best at removing spills and stains, and they won’t transfer any color to your carpet or upholstery. Remember to STAND on the spill when removing it from your carpet. The added pressure is key to lifting moisture from your carpet.
